"The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. Our EMT course consists of learning the basics of EMS through a minimum of 110 hours of education, with 60 hours of required ride time though students are invited to do more than the minimum necessary. Classes are lecture based with interactive presentations team taught by experienced providers. Students attend lectures, practice skills and participate in team based scenarios reinforcing class subject matter. In addition to fundamental anatomy and physiology, EMTs gain an entry level understanding into the science of resuscitation and emergency management. Classes are taught for the adult learner and tutoring is available to those who need it. No previous experience is necessary to enroll in this class, however those without previous EMS experience will benefit from doing additional clinical hours of ride time.
